Warren G. Goss entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and would first served in the 4th Infantry Division as a rifleman. Goss volunteered for service as a combat engineer in the 531st Engineer Special Brigade, which was among the first units to land at Utah Beach on D-Day. After the completion of the 531st ESB's mission in Normandy, Goss would be transferred to the 70th Infantry Division. Goss would serve as a rifleman in the 70th Infantry Division through the Rhineland and during the Battle of the Bulge.
